Sunset Inspired Nails

Here’s my latest work – it’s “Sunset” inspired for the ClaireStelle8May challenge. First though, let me show you the photo I used as a reference:

Isn’t that just beautiful? Love the rich blues and the golden yellows and the hint of green. So serene and relaxing. 🙂

In order to create this one, I used the ombre/gradient technique where you simply put stipes of polish on a makeup sponge and dab it on your nails. I love this look and each time I do it, it gets easier and easier. One of the big tricks to making it look right is to let it dry completely between each layer. This took two layers to build up enough opacity. This is also the first time I’ve done four colors. I love it. So much so I think I might just skip the next two challenges and leave this on for a while. (Coral, and Halloween in May) I don’t much care for the color coral and I’m not about to do Halloweeny nails in May. My co-workers and family think I’m weird enough as it is without doing spiders and black cats in the middle of May. Plus, the pending move is almost here. (22 more days!!!) I’m feeling the need to back off the little personal projects like nails, and start packing. Usually I’m much more focused than this on big life projects but I just can’t seem to start the process of packing – sure we’ve done a little, but not nearly enough. I digress. Again.

What do you think of my “sunset nails”? Let me know in the comments below.
