Gold and Black

Here’s my nail art for the @ClaireStelle8Challenge prompt #Gold. It was a lot of fun to do!

gold

It took me a while to decide what to do for this prompt – and what color, if any, I should pair the gold with. Gold on gold would be super pretty. Gold and white would go together nicely too. Heck – a coppery orange would look great for September. Almost any color goes with gold, right? However, after almost six weeks of doing nothing but plain pastels on my fingers while I was getting used to baby, I decided to be a little more daring. And sure, this is going to chip pretty soon with all the labor my hands are getting these days (washing bottle after bottle after bottle) but the next prompt (Tropical) is coming up tomorrow, so no worries! I’ll change it up shortly.

So, honesty here – this is totally inspired by this post:

I absolutely LOVE her nails! I wish I had that stamp – or even something close to it, but no such luck. So enter improvisation: Born Pretty plate BP-17. I painted my pinkie and ring fingers with black polish, and then the rest of them with gold. The same gold as my last manicure, actually. (Then did a bottle and put little man back down for a nap.) When things settled down again, I took my clear stamper and started with the pinky finger. I used tape to pull off the parts I picked up that I didn’t want on my nails. Then, carefully placed it. My pinkies are my favorite part of this manicure. I kinda wish I’d done this on each nail. Next time. I digress.  Once I finished with the gold on each nail, I switched to black. I used liquid latex to keep the mess down on the black ones. I didn’t really think much about where I was placing the design. If I’d taken three more seconds, this could have looked a lot cooler. Again, next time. 🙂 Once they were done I did a dry brush of the gold onto my ring finger. They came out okay – but next time I’ll use a chunkier gold glitter. This one didn’t have the same effect as @mommys_timeout_nails had. Overall though – it’s cute and I’m happy with it.

Have you ever had a manicure you finish and think – gee, that didn’t come out as planned. I wish I could do it over! I might just do that with this look. I really like how it all goes together but each nail is different.
